From the moment we start working, we think about when we’ll be able to retire and leave the stress of the daily grind behind us. Spend our leisurely days, traveling, reading, and basically having fun doing what we want, when we want. Compared to previous generations, we live longer life spans so we all expect our golden years to be fulfilling and rewarding.
To make those days the best you can, you need to plan ahead to prepare for it. During the years that we work, we spend loads of time going over financial and brokerage statements, benefits brochures and insurance policies. The sooner we start planning for retirement, the better those years will be.
Retirement planning isn’t all about hours of stress by chugging down numbers and analyzing mutual funds, it’s about deciding how you will live the final years of your life. If one can balance financially and plan fully on a retirement plan, rest assured that your future is secure. It’s not something that is done as a singular activity, it’s something that stretches over decades, spanning your 30′s. 40′s and you 50′s. As each decade goes by, one must rethink their strategy as they get closer to retirement. With the proper planning, you can give yourself the best retirement gift one can receive.
When you start to save for retirement in your early years (preferably in your 20′s), you take on a little more risk than you would as each decade rolls in. By the time you reach your 50′s, you should be in less riskier investments to secure the money you’ve accumulated. If one follows this general age/risk rule, then one has better chance that one has an ample amount of cash to spend on the pleasures of life when retirement age finally comes.
We always think about retirement during the years that we are working. What we want to do in our golden years, play golf, fish, travel the world. To be able to do the theings we want later in life, we need to plan ahead to make sure we have the opportunity to do so.
