Retirement Speeches

A retirement speech is when you make a speech honoring your friends and family and to thank everyone that helped you throughout the years. Thus, retirement speeches should have power and strong meaning in order to fully convey your message to everyone. A good speech will keep people interested while at the same time showing the real you and to show your feelings. So how exactly do you do all this? This guide will help you in giving the best retirement speech.

The first couple seconds of the speech is to calm down. You cannot give a speech shaking or nervous. You should approach the podium or wherever you’ll be giving the speech and to simply take a deep breath. Do NOT say that you’re nervous or that you don’t know what to say or anything else of this sort. If you truly want people to remember your speech and to respect you, you should show confidence and integrity.

You should also write your speech down and to set it down on a table when you speak. Writing a speech down will organize you and will guide you when you speak. Thus, you’ll know exactly what to say when you’re up there in front of everyone. Secondly, you should set your paper down so that if you are nervous, you won’t shake the paper showing everyone you are nervous. Once you take your deep breath, you should just do something to break the ice. Give a smile, or laugh heartily. Or you can say “good morning” or “how is everyone doing” or anything of this sort. This is so that you’ll calm the nerves and for you to ease up your own nerves.

Now, the speech will differ from people to people. This speech is a recollection of your life, your achievements, and your experiences which you are summing up in your retirement speech. However, you can follow these tips to ensure your speech is a strong, memorable one. First, for your beginning, you should tell a funny joke or a funny story. Don’t make it too corny and make it well humored. This should lighten the mood and get people’s interest in your speech. Next you should give a description of yourself when you first started to the man that stands before your audience today. Show how you changed, what stayed the same, and what you learned about yourself when you worked with the company.

Also, you should think up important experiences and achievements in your life and say that to the audience. Tell them what your future holds and what you’ll be doing when you retire. Mention that you will try to keep in contact with them. Finally you should give thanks to the staff for helping you and being with you, friends for supporting you, and your family for their love and support. Then you should give your gratitude for the party and gifts.
